City hosts major cycling tour

The world-renowned Pearl Izumi Tour Series is back in Peterborough today.

The city is hosting round nine of the event, with riders racing along the now familiar city centre route.

Officials say Bourges Boulevard, Bridge Street, Church Street and Cowgate will all play host to a flash of technicolour as racers power past an expected crowd of spectators.

The field is expected to include three former Olympic champions, Ed Clancy, Steven Burke and Bradley Wiggins as well as three female former Olympic champions, Dani King, Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell.

This year’s event is also expected to feature two local riders, Keira McVitty, racing for Team Giordana Triton in the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series and Steve Lamper, racing for Team Raleigh GAC in the Pearl Izumi Tour Series.
