Man hurt in 'unprovoked' gang attack

A man has been left with serious injuries after he was attacked by a group of men armed with wooden planks in Peterborough.

The 32-year-old was in Alma Road Park with a friend in the early hours of August 29 when he began speaking with a group of five or six men.

Without warning, the men then launched an attack on the victim s friend before moving on to him.

It is believed the offenders used wooden planks during the attack, possibly broken fence panels which may have had nails or something similar in them.

The victim suffered minor injuries to his chest and hands, as well as a serious, but not life threatening injury to his head.

One of the offenders is described as being very tall, about 6 5 and wearing a yellow hooded top.

Detective Constable Leeza Phillips told Connect FM: “This was an unprovoked, violent attack on a man and his friend and I need the public s help to trace the perpetrators.

“The victim has been left with some horrific injuries, thankfully they are not life changing, and I am determined to find those responsible.”

Anyone with information should contact the Peterborough Criminal Investigation Department via 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
