Children's centre expands

Northamptonshire`s children and young people’s referral management centre`s being expanded from today.

The county`s NHS Foundation Trust says it`ll now offer not only specialist services but also a wider range of emotional wellbeing and mental health support for youngsters.

Sharon Toyer, deputy director for NHFT’s children’s and ambulatory services told Connect FM: “We are absolutely delighted to expand to provide a single point of referral to access services for children and young people within the county of Northamptonshire.

“As a trust we are committed to delivering compassionate quality care and providing the service of the RMC will ensure the needs of the child or young person are quickly identified and the child receives care from the most appropriate service or services to best meet their needs.”

Councillor Heather Smith, Northamptonshire County Council deputy leader and cabinet member for children’s services, told Connect FM: “The expansion of the children and young people’s referral management centre is an excellent example of partnership working and means there is now one central point of contact for referrals from teachers, social workers and other professionals concerning children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing.

“The referral management centre will have robust links with the multi-agency safeguarding hub and our early help team to make sure children and young people across Northamptonshire receive the very best help and support in every aspect of their health and wellbeing.”

Richard Bailey, deputy head of joint commissioning for Nene and Corby CCGs, told Connect FM: “The Referral Management Centre has made excellent progress and we are pleased that the centre is now accessible by a wider cohort of clinicians and professionals. We know that supporting children from an early age can make all the difference. The consequences of untreated problems early in life can be long-lasting and far-reaching for young people, who deserve the best help and support we can give them. The RMC is just part of our local transformational plans to better meet the needs of children and young people and ensure that they receive timely, high quality and accessible services.”

The RMC is based at Isebrook Hospital, Wellingborough and is staffed by a team of skilled administrators who process all urgent and non-urgent referrals for children and young people services.
