Northamptonshire Police has today launched a three-month countywide operation to reduce violent crime, called Operation Scorpion.
Chief Constable Simon Edens launched the operation by unveiling a plaque to commemorate the Reducing Domestic Violence Peace One Day coalition.
Caroline Shearer from the charity Only Cowards Carry also spoke at the launch from a victim s perspective, having lost her son in an unprovoked knife crime incident three years ago. Caroline now runs the charity to raise awareness of the dangers and consequences of carrying a weapon.
Over the next three months, Northamptonshire Police will be focusing resources on intense countywide police activity concentrated on arresting people wanted for violent crime. This is part of a long-term strategy to bring about a sustained reduction in violent crime.
This includes working with people who have committed their first violent crime in order to get to the root-causes of violence in order to prevent reoffending.
