Two people have been treated in hospital for the effects of breathing in smoke after a fire in a block of flats in Kettering.
Four police officers were treated at the scene following the blaze on Dryland Street last night.
Seven appliances and 40 firefighters were called out to tackle the flames.
The fire service says a rescue was complicated because, instead of using the stairs to escape, many residents went up onto the roof.
Others followed official advice and remained in their flats to await rescue.
The blaze was brought under control around an hour later.
Crews have remained at the scene overnight.
Fire investigators will attend the scene this morning to try and establish the cause.
There are no reports of any injuries.
