Hospital leads the way in prostate surgery

Kettering General Hospital has become the first hospital in the region to introduce a new laser operation to help patients who need surgical treatment for benign enlargement of the prostate.

The treatment is called photoselective vaporisation of the prostate (PVP) and entails using a green light laser to reduce the size of enlarged prostates. (Attached Picture is of consultant urologist Mr Mohammed Al-Sudani performing the procedure)

Benign prostate enlargement affects 60% of men over 60. The new procedure is much quicker with less side effects and quicker recovery than traditional surgery.
