Cambridgeshire Police are warning motorists about the dangers of driving the morning after a night drinking.

The force says many people don’t realise they could still be over the limit.

The annual Christmas crackdown is underway – with extra patrols being mounted throughout December.

On average it takes about one hour per unit of alcohol to leave the body  a large glass of wine or a pint of strong beer is about three units.

Meanwhile, for the first time, Northamptonshire Police will be testing people for driving under the influence of drugs.
Officers wil be using  a new piece of equipment as part of the Christmas drink drive campaign which got underway last week.
Of the 226 drivers stopped during an operation in Northampton on Monday morning, none were found to be over the drink-drive limit.
