Easter appeal over medicines and prescriptions

People in Peterborough are being urged to make sure they have enough medicines to last them over the long Easter weekend.

GP practices will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday, and only a few pharmacies will be open.

Experts say being prepared for common illnesses and injuries that can be treated at home is important too. The local CCG recommends residents keep a small first aid kit at home that can include:

painkillers such as paracetamol/ibuprofen (children versions are available)
rehydration mixtures for diarrhoea or vomiting
a thermometer (preferably digital) to check for fever
antihistamine medicine (children versions are available)
decongestant drops/vapour rub
antiseptic cream/spray and wipes
cooling gel packs to help with fever/bumps/bruises
plastic gloves
saline solution and an eye bath
sticky plasters in a variety of sizes
