MPs in devolution debate

Peterborough`s MP`s to join a debate in Parliament today about plans for devolution in East Anglia.

The event in Westminster Hall comes amid continuing hostility to the government’s plans for a combined authority covering Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

Stewart Jackson is among those expected to take part in the discussion.

The debate will take place with two months left until county and district councils have to decide whether they want to take part in the process.

Ministers have previously indicated that authorities would have to accept a mayor if they wanted to be part of the project.

But many MPs and council leaders have called for a rethink of the idea.

Last week, a National Audit Office report also cast doubt over the project, describing the government’s latest devolution plans, which include East Anglia, as complex and untested.
