101 year old woman falls victim to distraction burglars

Police are looking to identify a man in connection with a distraction burglary on a 101-year-old woman in the village of Northborough near Peterborough.

She was at home on Tuesday evening (May 31st) when a man claiming to be from the water board knocked at her door.

He said he had just punctured a water pipe and wanted to check who it belonged to, when another man came up to the door.

The first one asked to enter the house to check the water before asking the victim to run the tap and empty the cupboard under the sink, while he checked the bathroom. The other man remained outside.

After about half-an-hour, she realised he’d gone. But, it wasn t until later that evening when she checked her purse that she noticed her pension money, £400 in cash, was missing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
