Grass cutting to take place this weekend

Extra grass cutting will take place across Peterborough this weekend.

The decision follows residents raising concerns about the length of grass in certain locations.

A review is also underway to assess whether the current city-wide grass cutting regime is sufficient.

The areas to be cut over the weekend were due to be cut in around two weeks time. Staff numbers carrying out the additional cutting will be at usual weekday levels.

Councillor Gavin Elsey, cabinet member for waste and street scene, said: Peterborough residents have given us a clear message that they feel the grass is too long in certain areas. I ve therefore taken the decision to cut dozens of grassed areas across the city this weekend.

As part of my review I will looking to increase the frequency of cuts for those areas that currently receive three cuts a year.

We ve heard the public loud and clear and have acted quickly.

Many areas of the city have been cut less frequently this summer, as agreed by councillors within the 2015/16 budget. Open spaces for recreation receive eight cuts a year.

The only exception are the seven biodiversity areas that were established in the city in 2014 and are only cut once at the end of the season.

The outcome of the grass-cutting review will be announced in due course.
