INSPIRED BY THE AVIVA WOMEN’S TOUR? THEN SIGN UP FOR TOUR RIDE NORTHAMPTONSHIRE!
Cyclists of all abilities are being invited to sign up for the Tour Ride Northamptonshire – where children can now ride for free!
Following the success of last weekend’s Aviva Women’s Tour, which saw the fifth and final stage of the international cycling race take place in Northamptonshire, riders are being offered the chance to take on part of the route for themselves.
Hosted by Northamptonshire County Council and Women’s Tour organisers SweetSpot, the Tour Ride Northamptonshire will take place on Sunday 17th July in Northampton.
As the official sportive of the Aviva Women’s Tour, the Tour Ride Northamptonshire has three route options including a 10-mile fun ride, 40-mile intermediate ride and 80-mile pro ride.
The 10-mile fun ride is perfect for families of all abilities, with a Sports Taster Zone at the five-mile mark at Upton Country Park. Children can now take part for free, while adults pay just £5 per person for the fun ride and £30 for the intermediate and pro rides.
County council leader Cllr Heather Smith said: “Sunday’s Aviva Women’s Tour was a phenomenal success and I was overwhelmed to see so many people living the streets to watch the race.
“For anyone who feels inspired by these incredible riders, the Tour Ride Northamptonshire is a fantastic chance to take on part of the route for yourselves, whether it’s the short family ride or the more challenging distances.
“The event will be a great day for devoted cyclists and newcomers alike, and I’d encourage people to find out more by visiting www.tourride.co.uk.”
The 10-mile family ride route goes along the canal path on quiet, marshalled and well-signposted cycle lanes, with a break at the halfway point at Upton Country Park offering fun activities and sporting challenges.
For more able cyclists, the 40-mile intermediate ride heads out to Daventry before looping round to Delapre Abbey via Norton and Harpole, while the 80-mile pro ride leads avid cyclists up steep climbs and through sprint sections used by the Aviva Women’s Tour.
All courses start and finish at Delapre Abbey where the event village is free to look around and refreshments and food are available. An official finisher’s t-Shirt and medal will be awarded to everyone who takes part.
