Children hurt in school bus crash

An investigation’s underway after a school bus was involved in a collision with a car in Oundle.

The crash happened shortly before 4pm in Cotterstock Road when a bus carrying children from Prince William School, was in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa.

The bus, which was carrying 10 primary school children and 39 secondary schoolchildren as well as one adult, overturned onto its side.

Twenty children suffered cuts and bruises and were treated by paramedics from the East Midlands Ambulance Service. Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service were also on scene within minutes.

One child was air-lifted to Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, with non-life-threatening injuries and another child suffered a broken arm.

The driver of the Corsa was airlifted to the Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry for treatment to leg injuries.

The road was closed until late last night.
