Cambridgeshire Police and Peterborough City Council are vowing to crackdown on law-breaking travellers.
The pledge comes after they set up an illegal encampment at Stanground.
Staff from the local authority are now clearing up the mess left behind – which includes rubbish and a burnt out car.
Chief Inspector Rob Hill from the city’s Prevention and Enforcement Service said: “The traveller encampment at the Southfields Recreation Ground moved from the area over the weekend however a significant amount of rubbish has been left at the site as well as a burned out car which has caused extensive damage to the grass.
“Criminal and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and council and police officers in the Prevention and Enforcement Service will continue to work with the community to identify individuals responsible. If offenders are identified they will be held to account – if anyone has specific evidence identifying persons responsible they are encouraged to report this to the police.
“The site is being cleared as a matter of priority and actions are in hand to improve defences to this and a number of city-wide public open spaces
“Residents should report any anti-social behaviour via 101 or in an emergency 999.”
