Northamptonshire Steelbacks’ will be celebrating their recent Natwest T20 Blast victory with an open-top bus parade and civic reception at the Guild Hall this Saturday, September 10th in honour of the club’s achievements this season.
The parade, which will leave Northamptonshire County Cricket Club grounds via Abington Avenue at 11.45am, will give cricket fans the chance to join the celebrations as the bus makes its way along Wellingborough Road to the Guildhall, via St Giles Street, Castilian Street and Derngate.
The Steelbacks soared to victory in the final of the Natwest T20 Blast against Durham, lifting their second title in four years.
Northamptonshire Steelbacks are the second Northampton team to enjoy an open-top bus parade this year, following Northampton Football Club earlier in April.
Northampton Borough Council’s leader Mary Markham said: “2016 has been a fantastic year for Northampton’s sporting teams and Northamptonshire Steelbacks’ recent Natwest T20 Blast victory is a great way to finish the summer. We are honoured to be holding a parade for the team and I look forward to congratulating the players at a reception at the Guildhall.”
Steelbacks Captain, Alex Wakely spoke of his delight at the level of support the squad has received from everyone associated with the town and the club: ‘It has been overwhelming to say the least. I love this club and town so much and it means the absolute world that we have been given the chance to show off our trophy at the parade on Saturday. The support from fans this year has been the best I have ever played in front of and I hope we get a chance to chat to some of the people who have been behind us on Saturday.’
