Man found guilty of murder

A Corby man has been found guilty of murder after he punched his victim at a KFC in Corby.

The victim later died of serious head injuries.

Ashley Palmer, aged 33, of Moss Walk, Corby, had admitted manslaughter, but denied murdering 38-year-old Bernard Farrell, from Birmingham on the evening of Tuesday, 3 November, 2015.

Following a week-long trial at Northampton Crown Court, the jury unanimously found him guilty of murder. He will be sentenced later on in the year.

Palmer had initially been charged with GBH, however shortly after the attack, Bernard died from his injuries and the charge was changed to murder.

Judge Rupert Mayo indicated that a life sentence would be likely, but that he needed further reports before sentencing Palmer.

Detective Inspector Phil Mills, from the Major Crime Team, said: “I am pleased with the decision of the jury. Hopefully this can help bring some closure for Mr Farrell’s family following this tragic event.”
