Campaigners fight to keep dementia day centres open

Carers of people with dementia and the campaign group Save Northants Services are stepping up their fight to keep centres for people with dementia open in the face of proposals by the county council to close them.

Today there will be a street stall from 11.00 am in Northampton town centre at the Cobblers Last  and petitions will be available.

They are also planning to hold a protest outside the County Council Cabinet meeting next Tuesday from 12.30 and then a number of people will address the Cabinet from 2.00 pm and speak against the proposals .

Northamptonshire County Council’s Cabinet`s to discuss a recommendation to terminate the current contract of two day centres for the elderly.

A review`s found that Drayton Centre in the Kingsthorpe area of Northampton and Stephenson Court in Kilsby are currently being under-used.

Officials say those affected will be offered provision at Turnfurlong in Northampton and Longlands in Daventry.
