UKAFH (UK Amateur Fossil Hunters) is now the largest fossil hunting society in the UK, specifically aimed at the amateur fossil collector and enthusiast (and it’s based in Kettering). They encourage everyone, of all ages, to enjoy the rewarding fossil hunting experience at some of their great organised hunts. Over the last 5 years they have delivered over 100 fossil hunt’s with loads of amazing fossils found from Dinosaur bones to Woolly Mammoth teeth.
Founded in 2010, Craig Chapman says “As the founder of UKAFH I am very proud of all we have achieved in such a short amount of time. We’ve become one of the biggest amateur fossil groups in the country! Now we’ve teamed up with UKGE things can only get better and better.
It’s still hard to believe people come to me for advice about fossils. Five years ago, I wouldn’t have known a great deal. Everything I know has been self-taught and through experience out in the field. It’s a fascinating hobby and my vision for the future is to make fossil hunting an accessible and enjoyable hobby for everyone”.
It’s a family friendly club and offers monthly fossil hunts across the UK at some of the very best fossil sites. Whether you’re just starting out or are already a seasoned collector, this is a terrific club to be part of!
We have a great track record and lots of happy members! Everyone will find a UKAFH hunt to be a great day out! It’s a fun and educational experience for families and individuals and moreover, the sites we visit will guarantee success in you finding fossils to take away, along with memories of a richly rewarding experience.
In 2015 UKAFH were featured on ITV’s Dinosaur Britain series featuring some of Britain’s best known Dinosaurs. Our role in this was to talk Ellie and Dean (presenters) and young families out on a fossil hunt at the world famous Charmouth Black ven beach.
Craig – “Well, what can I say? I never imagined UKAFH on the telly! It’s a really exciting time for me and for the organisation. It’s taken a lot of effort by all of the team to get us to this point, so many thanks to them and also to all of our members for making UKAFH the success that it is”.
And now Steve Snowball and Craig Chapman the driving forces behind the Club. Have translated UKAFH’s highly successful program of fossil hunts and event into UKAFH’s first ever book. “A guild to fossil collecting in England and Wales which is now available for sale. Click on the picture for more.
