Below is a statement from Northamptonshire Highways on the latest situation on the problems on the A6 between Rothwell & Desborough;
“Northamptonshire Highways would like to thank everyone for their ongoing patience during the closure of the A6 and your cooperation.
As you are aware our investigation work showed that the initial findings are more significant than originally thought.
The work involved is extensive and we have been mobilising our teams and securing the specialist equipment.
Repair works started Monday January 30.
We now have our site compound installed and works have started to excavate the area. To date we have removed the affected road surface and are currently waiting for it to be tested.
This is something we have to do to ensure it is safe and can be removed from site. This week we will continue to test and remove materials.
Temporary change to diversion route this weekend.
Network Rail must carry out planned works to replace the railway bridge (Barford Bridge) on the A6003. This is part of a much wider scheme on the busy railway network and requires the A6003 to close temporarily.
During this time the A6 diversion will be temporarily changed to accommodate their works and the need for a closure.
The first change will be this weekend, Saturday February 4 from midnight and will continue until 6am on Monday, February 6.
A signed diversion route will be in place taking traffic on the A43 Corby Link Road to the A427.
The official A6 diversion route will be in place outside these hours.
The A6 repair works are weather dependant and should be completed by the end of February.”
