The number of maintained Northamptonshire schools in deficit has risen from five to nine in the space of a year.
Historically the county`s pupils have long been underfunded.
For the 2015 2016 year Northants was allocated more than 4 thousand pounds per pupil.
A report at a meeting of the County Council has revealed four more schools didn`t stay within budget in the 2016 and 2017 year than in 2015 and 2016.
The nine in total missed their budgets by 180 thousand pounds and could be forced to make redundancies in order to balance their books.
