Wellingborough town centre steps back in time

The people of Wellingborough are gearing up to step back in time as the whole town welcomes the Medieval Festival this weekend.

Now in its fifth year, the action-packed family weekend will once again transport the thriving town centre back to the Middle Ages when attendees can see knights on horseback, street entertainers in character, ferret racing and magic shows.

The action will take place across various town locations including Market Street, Tithe Barn lawn and Croyland Gardens.

Youngsters will have the opportunity to dress-up in themed costume and joust on hobby horses at Wellingborough Museum and there will also be medieval dancing for all.

Colourful characters from the Middle Ages will mingle with visitors to give them a sense of authenticity as they walk round the vibrant attractions.

John Cable, Executive Director of the Wellingborough Business Improvement District (BID), which organises the event every year, said: “Final preparations are now taking place for the next Medieval Festival, which is set to be the biggest and best yet.

“A lot of time and effort has been put into this event as we want to make it as realistic and fun as it can possibly be. Now in its fifth year, we firmly believe the festival has become a firm favourite in the town’s calendar as it continues to grow and attract more and more people as time goes on.

“We hope everyone will join us as we step back in time and enioy what’s on offer which provides the perfect combination of fun and learning for the whole family.”

A circus workshop, medieval bazaar and arts and craft fayre have also been added to the programme set to take place across the weekend.
