Police prepare for Grand Prix

Plans are well underway for one of the country’s largest sporting events – the F1 British Grand Prix.

The Formula 1 British Grand Prix will take place on the weekend of July 14–16 July and Northamptonshire Police have once again been closely involved in the planning process to ensure racegoers have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Police will be out in force inside and outside the circuit throughout the weekend to ensure local people have access to support and advice as well as those attending the event.

For security reasons, this year people entering the circuit will be subject to extra searches of their bags and their person. This will make entering the venue slower than in previous years but security is paramount and event-goers are asked to be patient.

Superintendent Chris Hillery, who will be the event commander for Northamptonshire Police, said: ” “We are working in partnership with Silverstone Circuit to keep people safe over the Grand Prix weekend and will be deploying specialist assets such as covert police officers, armed officers and dogs to keep racegoers safe.

“Our officers will be spread all over the site, ready and willing to help people enjoy their visit and likely to pop up and say hello if anyone looks lost.

“The public can help us keep the event safe by being vigilant for anyone or anything which looks out of place or suspicious by reporting it to us on the 101 number, or by calling confidentially on 0800 789321.”
