Highways England have announced the works being carried out on the A1M between Peterborough and Huntingdon have been suspended.
The first phase which was due to finish in August started two weeks ago on the southbound slip road at junction 17.
Traffic was unable to access the A1M southbound at the junction and diverted through Hampton and Yaxley on the A15 which has caused lengthy delays and queues across Peterborough.
The chaos prompted North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara to write to Highways England urging them to take action.
The work will now be completed at a later date.
