Northamptonshire Police is warning people to be aware of financial scams – after thousands of pounds were stolen from victims recently.
Residents in the county have lost nearly sixty thousand pounds across more than twenty reported incidents over the past three months.
Typical scams target the elderly or vulnerable and involve a phone call from someone pretending to be from the bank or police – saying they have spotted fradulent activity and asking for confidential details in order to stop it.
The Take Five to Stop Fraud campaign has the following advice:
Never disclose security details, such as your PIN or full banking password
Don’t assume an email, text or phone call is authentic
Don’t be rushed – a genuine organisation won’t mind waiting
Listen to your instincts – you know if something doesn’t feel right
Stay in control – don’t panic and make a decision you’ll regret
