Crackdown on flytipping

An initiative`s being launched today to clear Peterborough of unsightly fly-tipping and encourage people to dispose of their waste responsibly.

The City Council, police and fire service are joining forces for the hashtag LovePeterborough campaign to try and prevent people dumping rubbish by the side of the road or in the countryside and to urge residents to report it straight away.

The local authority clears around 800 fly-tips every month costing more than two hundred thousand pounds a year.

In June firefighters were called to almost 40 deliberate fires involving fly-tipped waste in the city, spending 720 hours in total tackling the blazes.
