Eight teenagers are being held in custody after being arrested by detectives investigating an assault on a couple in the Blackthorn area of Northampton.
The arrests follow a violent attack in Harefield Road some time between 10pm and 11.30pm on Monday night (July 18)
Northamptonshire Police have arrested a number of suspects in connection with the attack.
All are male and live locally to the area.
A woman was taken to the University Hospital Coventry for intensive medical treatment following the attack. She remains in a critical condition.
A male victim, who was also suffered injuries in the assault, was treated at the same hospital, but was medically discharged.
Detective Inspector Adam Pendlebury, who is leading the investigation, said: We have had officers in the area all day today to provide reassurance to the local community and gather any information people may have.
We are still appealing for witnesses to come forward at this time.
