Dramatic changes to local government are being proposed for Northamptonshire – in the wake of financial chaos at the County Council.
An independent report’s been published after the authority was embroiled in a series of monetary problems surrounding budgets and services.
The review – commissioned by Westminster – concludes that existing councils in the county should be scrapped – and replaced by two unitary authorities.
One would cover Daventry, Northampton and South Northants – the other Corby, Wellingborough, Kettering and East Northants.
The plan is to establish them following elections to be held in May 2020.
