Northamptonshire County Council’s held an extraordinary meeting – as it says it may have to cut services to a legal minimum.
The authority’ s effectively bankrupt.
It needs to find 70 million pounds worth of savings over the next few months – but the council leader Matthew Golby insists their plan to do this will protect vulnerable people.
The proposals will be discussed again in a week.
Meanwhile a group of protesters gathered outside County Hall during the meeting to voice their concerns about the proposals.
Members of local campaign group Save Northants Services and the GMB union were among those protesting.
