Northampton Borough Council’s revealed key findings on retail and leisure which will form parts of the ongoing Local Plan.
The study found 40 percent of the area’s residents head to the town centre more than any other area – followed by just under 27 percent for Weston Favell and 22 percent for Milton Keynes.
Concerns were raised over the level of vacant units – particularly large stores like BHS on Abington Street.
It also shows that the most popular venues for health and fitness, bowling, cinema, eating out and night life were all contained within Northampton.
The council’s now into phase two of the major Local Plan for future growth.
